2019 Employee Training CETP and Non-Certified

This year we are offering both certified and refresher employee training for those working in the propane field or looking to obtain propane training certification. Training season will begin in June and runs through November. Classes are open to PPGA members and non-members. 

The instructor for all classes is David Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds has 25 years’ experience in retail Propane in the state of Washington, including service tech, appliance install service and repair, dispenser installation and repair as well as bobtail operations. Mr. Reynolds was the District Manager for three separate locations and an instructor for the Gas Check program. Prior to that, he was an automotive Mechanic for 20 years in Australia with experience in heavy trucks and propane transport dealing with motor fuel conversions on cars, trucks, fork lifts and generators.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Classes are held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily

Classes are limited to 20 students.

Attendance at all training classes is by pre-registration only.

PPGA reserves the right to cancel a class if there is a lack of participation. (Less than 5 attendees)

Attendees are responsible for lodging costs. For hotel reservations, please call the hotel directly and indicate that you are with Pacific Propane. 

Registration includes all materials, coffee, breakfast danishes and lunch. 

REGISTRATION

$99 per person, per class

The registration deadline is one week before the start of each class.

Refunds are provided if cancelled within 7 days of the class, minus a $10 processing fee.

1.0 Basic Principles and Practices of Propane 

An “entry level” course that provides prerequisite instruction about propane’s physical and combustion properties; how propane is produced and transported; the organizations that influence, publish or enforce codes and standards; how basic functions are performed in a bulk plant; primary safety concerns; customer service; odorants and service interruptions; complete and incomplete combustion characteristics; and much more.

2.2 Bobtail Delivery Operations

This course provides information for drivers who operate commercial motor vehicles to deliver propane and covers a bobtail’s basic equipment and systems including the cargo tank, gauges, valves, pumps, meters, delivery hoses and emergency discharge control equipment. Detailed procedures for safely loading a bobtail using the plant pump and DOT requirements for bobtail inspections will also be discussed, as well as the features and installation requirements of ASME tanks at customer locations.

4.1 Designing and Installing Exterior Vapor Distribution Systems

This course focuses on designing and installing the exterior portions of a vapor distribution system for both residential and small commercial markets. It addresses how to select and install containers, prevent corrosion, size and install regulators and meters, and select and install outdoor piping and tubing.

3.6 Performing Railcar Product Transfers and Maintaining DOT Intermodal (IM) Tanks

This course provides an overview of key concepts and strategies for field personnel, primarily on safely loading and unloading railcars and maintaining DOT intermodal tanks.  It provides information, practices, and procedures that support employees working in propane bulk plants that accept and dispatch railcar deliveries and/or handle and maintain DOT intermodal tanks.

Basic Principles and Practices Refresher Course

NFPA 58 states that refresher training shall be provided every 3 years. The Basic Principles & Practices refresher course provides refresher training on propane's physical and combustion properties, and how propane is produced and transported. Some of the other topics covered are: Organizations that influence publish or enforce codes and standards, how basic functions are performed in a bulk plant including primary safety concerns and customer service; odorants and service interruptions; complete and incomplete combustion characteristics; and much more.

Crane Operations Safety Training

A training designed to teach crane operators, field technicians, and managers the best practices and procedures for the safe operation of a mobile crane in the propane industry.  

This course may be required as part of OSHA Crane Certification.
